On 27th December 2025, the National Maths and Science Quiz for Private Senior High Schools in Ghana was officially launched at a well attended press event held at the GNAT Hall in Accra. The launch marked a significant milestone in Ghana’s education landscape, particularly in advancing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics education within the private secondary school sector.

The event brought together key stakeholders from across the education ecosystem, including representatives of the Ministry of Education, officials from relevant government agencies, leaders of private secondary school associations, heads and proprietors of accredited private Senior High Schools, media partners, corporate organizations, and education advocates. Their presence underscored the shared national commitment to academic excellence and youth development.

The keynote address was delivered by Michael Chris Tetteh Esq, Chief Executive Officer of Pierian Spring, the organization behind the initiative. In his address, he highlighted the central role of Mathematics and Science as the drivers of innovation, technological advancement, and sustainable national development. He emphasized that every nation that has achieved long term progress has done so by making deliberate investments in STEM education.

He further noted the important but often underrepresented role of private Senior High Schools in Ghana’s educational system. While these schools educate thousands of talented students across the country, they have historically lacked a dedicated national platform to showcase their academic strength in Mathematics and Science. The National Maths and Science Quiz for Private Senior High Schools was therefore conceived to bridge this gap.

The initiative was presented not merely as a competition, but as a national movement designed to recognize academic talent, stimulate intellectual curiosity, encourage analytical thinking, and promote problem solving skills among students. It aims to position private secondary school students firmly within Ghana’s national STEM agenda, while complementing existing public sector efforts in education.

During the launch, the relevance of the quiz was clearly outlined. The competition seeks to promote excellence in Mathematics and Science, nurture innovation and critical thinking, provide a credible national platform for private Senior High Schools, and contribute to the development of future engineers, doctors, scientists, researchers, and technologists who will drive Ghana’s socio economic development.

A formal appeal was made to the Ministry of Education and other government institutions for policy and institutional support, strategic partnerships, technical guidance, and sponsorship. Such support, it was emphasized, will enhance the credibility, sustainability, and nationwide reach of the initiative, while strengthening public private collaboration in education.

Private secondary school associations, school heads, and proprietors were also called upon to actively participate and take ownership of the quiz. The message was clear that the success of the initiative depends on collective commitment and collaboration, and that private education in Ghana represents not only access, but also quality, excellence, and innovation.

The launch further extended an invitation to corporate organizations, development partners, media houses, philanthropists, and individuals who believe in education to support the initiative through financial, logistical, or technical contributions. Such support will directly impact the academic and professional futures of young Ghanaians.

In closing, Pierian Spring reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and academic integrity in the organization and delivery of the quiz. With the support of government, private institutions, educators, partners, and the media, the National Maths and Science Quiz for Private Senior High Schools is poised to become a lasting national platform that inspires students to dream boldly, think critically, and excel through Mathematics and Science.

Further details on participation, registration, and competition schedules will be communicated in due course.
